Residence Admission Policy

Admission to residence at Trinity College is governed by the Residence Admission Policy and Residence Agreement and is administered by the Office of the Dean of Students.

If you have any questions about the policy or process, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students at deanofstudents@trinity.utoronto.ca or 416-978-3612.

RESIDENCE ADMISSION POLICY FOR NEWLY ADMITTED STUDENTS

In order to maintain their space while living in residence, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 3.0 FCEs, with a minimum of 3 courses in each of the Fall and Winter semesters, or a comparable course load in the Faculty of Divinity.

Students who believe that they have additional information regarding their personal circumstances that may warrant an exemption from the course load requirement may apply for an exemption by completing the appropriate section of the residence application or if circumstances change post-application, by contacting the Office of the Dean of Students.

1. Newly Admitted First-Year Students: Faculty of Arts & Science

Trinity College aims to house, within its residences, as many Trinity students in the Faculty of Arts and Science who are eligible for the University of Toronto’s Residence Guarantee for First-Year Applicants as possible, and will allocate approximately half of its initial residence spaces to students in this category.

All residence applications for incoming students are directed through StarRez, an application managed by the University of Toronto’s Housing Services office.  You must have completed the University’s common residence application through StarRez by March 31, 2024, and have received and accepted an offer of admission to the University by June 1, 2024, in order to qualify for the University of Toronto’s Residence Guarantee for First-Year Applicants. For those admitted to Trinity College, you will be contacted in early June regarding the next steps in applying to live in residence at Trinity.  Be sure to monitor the inbox of the email address that you used to initially apply to the University of Toronto, as this is where application information will be sent.

2. Newly Admitted Students: Faculty of Divinity

Newly admitted students in the Trinity College Faculty of Divinity who have never before lived in the Trinity College residences are guaranteed a space in residence at the College, provided that they complete the residence application and all requirements by the residence application deadline for newly admitted students. All other Divinity students must apply for residence under the Divinity categories listed below. Please contact the Faculty of Divinity at divinity@trinity.utoronto.ca or 416 978-2133, for more information. Click here for information about U of T on-campus and off-campus housing information and options.

3. Newly Admitted First-Entry Professional Faculty Students

Trinity reserves a limited number of spaces for students within first-entry professional faculties who are eligible for the University of Toronto Residence Guarantee for First-Year Applicants. Interested and eligible first-entry professional faculty students should contact the Office of the Dean of Students for more information regarding the application procedure.

4. Newly Admitted Upper-Year Students - CEGEP or University/College Transfers

Trinity students within this category are generally not eligible for the University of Toronto Residence Guarantee for First-Year Applicants. Nevertheless, Trinity will strive to offer residence to as many of these students as possible. Students within this category should contact the Office of the Dean of Students for more information regarding the application procedure.

Students must meet all deadlines and deposit requirements in order to maintain their eligibility for residence.
