The Rev. Christopher Brittain's Installation Ceremony in the Trinity Chapel

On Wednesday, November 22, the Rev’d Dr. Chris Brittain was installed as Trinity’s new Dean of Divinity and Margaret E. Fleck Chair in Anglican Studies. Held during the Choral Evensong service, the installation was officiated by the Most Rev’d Colin Johnson, Archbishop of Toronto. Trinity’s Vice-Provost and Dean of Arts Prof. Michael Ratcliffe and Humphrys Chaplain the Rev’d Andrea Budgey also participated in the ceremony.

Installation of The Rev. Prof. Chris Brittain as Dean of DivinityAs a graduate of Trinity, stepping into this challenging role was made easier for the College’s new Dean of Divinity: “I was already familiar with and appreciative of its ethos and mission. The connection of the Faculty of Divinity to the wider university, its ecumenical links to the other colleges of the Toronto School of Theology, and its partnership with the Anglican Church of Canada all seemed to offer promising opportunities and resources for the kind of work I want to be a part of.”

As he begins his tenure as Dean of Divinity, Prof. Chris Brittain is interested to see what’s in store. “The faculty of Divinity – and theological education in Canada more generally — is in for quite a transformation over the next decade,” he says. “Looking to the future to see what contributions Divinity can make in a multicultural and multi-faith society like Canada’s is exciting to me. I’m keen to explore what that’s going to mean.”
