The United Nations Association in Canada announces its 2017 Global Citizen Laureate

Trinity alumnus and Chancellor The Hon. William C. Graham is this year’s honouree.

Chancellor Bill GrahamThe United Nations Association in Canada citation: “As a prominent Canadian, Mr. Graham has demonstrated a strong dedication to the global community and to security, while having created a successful reputation in the fields of law, politics and academia – both in Canada and internationally. The Global Citizens Dinner will pay special tribute to his uniquely Canadian model of success within the global community. His generous philanthropic commitment to society and his leadership all contribute to building a better world. This is the measure of our Global Citizens Award. Bill Graham has previously been recognized for his contributions, commitments and achievements. This is reflected through his many prestigious titles including as a Member of the Order of Canada, Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, and Honorary Colonel of the Governor General’s Horse Guards. Since 2007, The Hon. Bill Graham (Trinity alum Class of 1961) has served as Trinity’s Chancellor, the College’s highest-ranking volunteer officer.

The Hon. Bill Graham will receive his honour at the 2017 Global Citizens Dinner on May 11, 2017 in Toronto.

The Hon. Bill Graham Receives 2017 Vimy Award

Chancellor Bill Graham is the recipient of the 2017 Vimy Award. Presented by the CDA Institute, the award recognizes a prominent Canadian who has contributed to the country’s security and defence, and to the preservation of its democratic values.

Since 2007, The Hon. Bill Graham has served as Trinity’s Chancellor, the College’s highest-ranking volunteer officer.

Prior to his tenure as Chancellor, Graham had a distinguished career as a lawyer and Member of Parliament, where he played an influential role in shaping Canada’s international engagement. Throughout his active political career, Graham initiated important transformations that continue to influence defence policy and plans today.

The Vimy Award will be presented at a gala held at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa on November 3, 2017.
