Provost Mayo Moran’s Holiday Message to the Community

As we come to the end of 2015, there are so many reasons to give thanks.

Thank you to our students for being committed to the community as well as to their studies. From supporting Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund as the Saints Ball’s charity, to their involvement with Humanities for Humanity (H4H) community outreach program, to our Student Ambassadors who are leading by example through the Giving Tuesday campaign, to student-led fundraisers to support others in need – their actions make a difference. Students are at the heart of Trinity College and we are so grateful for all that our students contribute.

Thanks to our alumni for everything you do for the College, from serving as mentors, to volunteering in so many roles, to their generosity to the College. Each year, our alumni community donates more than $1 million to support our students through Trinity’s scholarship and bursary program. We are fortunate to be a part of a community that respects and cares for one another, as reflected in the wonderful new gift from Anne Steacy and the Royces to support mental health. We are so grateful to have generous alumni who make such a difference and who support our students in every possible way.

We are also thankful to live in a country like Canada; many around the world are not as fortunate. That is why Chancellor Bill Graham, Chaplain Andrea Budgey and I are leading Trinity’s commitment to sponsor the relocation of a refugee family from Syria to Canada through the Ryerson Lifeline Syria Challenge. Our students, faculty, staff and alumni are enthusiastic partners in helping make this a reality.  Stepping forward to make a difference has always been an important part of the Trinity way. It is a privilege to be part of such a generous community.

I also want to take this moment to thank our staff and faculty for their commitment to our students and the College. We educate, advise and nurture the students of Trinity, and we are so fortunate to have wonderful people here who do their very best to provide a home-away-from-home for our students. Thank you for all that you do to make Trinity the best place it can be.

And with my many thanks, I wish all members of the Trinity community a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends and all the best for 2016!

Turner (1883 – 1953), a British Canadian artist who emigrated from England in 1903, settling in Saskatchewan, where he farmed while pursuing his art. After moving to Toronto in 1911 he worked in advertising and studied with George Reid at the Ontario College of Art. His work often depicted urban subjects, notably in Toronto and Quebec City.
